The Four-Stage Methodology

For a successful implementation of a web farming system, a four-stage methodology is recommended. Each stage builds upon the previous, with the goal of blending the web farming activity within the data warehouse and eventually within the knowledge management system for the enterprise.
  1. Getting Started by establishing the business case based on the objectives and business environment of the enterprise
  2. Getting Serious by legitimizing the web farming activity within the organization and by building infrastructure for production operations
  3. Getting Smart by exploiting technology (especially for discovery and structuring of information) and by building pipelines to primary content providers
  4. Getting Tough by structuring information for the data warehouse by revisiting the business objectives in light of the warehouse schema

Further description of these stages is contained in Chapters Four and Five of the WF Book.
